Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Yeoh will play Scian, described by Deadline as, “the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, she launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.”

The actress joins the previously announced Laurence O’Fuarain who is set to play the vengeance-minded warrior, Fjall.

Yeoh is perhaps best known for her role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but she has had a prolific career on film and television including roles in Crazy Rich AsiansStar Trek: Discovery, and Memoirs of a Geisha. She can also be seen in the upcoming Gunpowder Milkshake and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set in the elven world 1200 years before the events of the main series, and will concern itself, in part, with the creation of the first Witcher.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside Declan de Barra who will also serve as showrunner. Witcher creator Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as a consultant on the series.
