One month is all that separates us from Monster: The Ed Gein Story on Netflix.
If you have watched American Horror Story, you know Ryan Murphy enjoys working with the same actors. He has brought back many of the actors as the series continues its success. Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, and Emma Roberts are just a few of the celebrities to star in multiple seasons of American Horror Story.
Most notably, fan favorite Evan Peters has been a recurring cast member for 9 of the 12 seasons.
In addition to calling back Peters to collaborate on American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy also brought Peters onto his project Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Dahmer was the first installment of Murphy’s Monster anthology.
Following the wild success of the 2022 Netflix series, Murphy continued the series. Season two focuses on “monstrous figures” Lyle and Erik Menendez. Season three’s subject is Ed Gein, and most recently Lizzie Borden will be the lead focus of season 4.
Will this trend continue? Absolutely it will!
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
While Netflix has not yet officially announced the fourth installment, Variety and Deadline have both revealed the fourth season will focus on Lizzie Borden. Production is expected to begin this fall.
Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and step mother with an axe in their Fall River, Massachusetts home in 1892. While later acquitted, no other suspects were ever brought forward and charged. Suspicion from the community always hung over Borden’s head, and she was heavily ostracized in Fall River where she lived until her death in 1927.
Variety and Deadline, amongst other outlets, have also released the upcoming cast in Murphy’s Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.
Off of the heels of Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Charlie Hunnam has been announced as Andrew Borden, Lizzie’s father. This transformation will be less intensive as his role required as Ed Gein. Despite being 20+ years older than Hunnam at the time of his death, most of the transformation will rely on facial hair and costuming for the Sons of Anarchy star. Like Peters, Murphy must have taken a shine to Hunnam as he is working with him again.
Ella Beatty, daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Benning, has won the role of leading lady herself, Lizzie Borden. Beatty has a Juilliard education, and debuted her acting in 2024 with the FX series Feud: Capote vs The Swans. While Beatty is not a household name yet, Murphy has a way of changing that for actors.
Rebecca Hall will be portraying Lizzie’s step mother, Abby Borden. Hall is known to the horror community for her lead in The Night House. Lastly, Vicky Krieps (Old, 2021) will be Bridget Sullivan, the Borden’s family live in maid.
