Willem Dafoe Stars in Trailer for ‘The Lobster’ Director’s Follow-Up, ‘Poor Things’

The director of The Lobster, The Favourite, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer arrives with his new film, Poor Things. We have read through the synopsis quite a few times and have come to the same conclusion over and over again. Is this a new take on The Bride of Frankenstein? Cause, it certainly sounds like it. Dr. Godwin Baxter brings Bella Baxter back from the dead. There are a few similarities in the trailer too. Namely that Dafoe’s character has some deformities that are somewhat similar to those of Frankenstien’s monster.
Yorgos Lanthimos is hands down one of our favorite directors. His body of work has been incredible. The Lobster is easily one of my faves of his for the rich social commentary on love and the stigma that comes with marriage and relationships.
The synopsis for Poor Things goes like this:
The incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
Poor Things stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbot, and Mark Ruffalo.
Poor Things arrives in theaters beginning September 8.
