‘Welcome to Derry’ Prequel Series To ‘IT’ Pushed Back Even More Due to Strikes

The much-anticipated ‘IT’ prequel series, ‘Welcome to Derry,’ has hit a snag that will push its premiere from a planned 2024 Halloween release to a 2025 debut. This news comes as a cold shower for the legion of horror fans eager to revisit the haunting world of Pennywise.
The reason behind this postponement is none other than the recent industry-wide strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). These strikes have cast a long shadow over numerous productions, with ‘Welcome to Derry’ being the latest victim.
HBO and Max’s top brass, chairman/CEO Casey Bloys, delivered the grim news at a press event. The delay extends the gap between the series and the last ‘IT’ film to a harrowing six years, testing the patience of us horror fans.

The series promises to delve into the prequel territory of the ‘IT’ saga, offering a backstory to the malevolent entity that is Pennywise and the town of Derry, which has become synonymous with terror in the King canon. While details are shrouded in mystery, the involvement of Andy Muschietti, the director who helmed the recent film adaptations, offers a glimmer of hope that the series will retain the chilling atmosphere and heart-pounding suspense that fans crave.

‘Sweet Home’ Returns After Two Years For a Bloody Season 2

On December 1, the long-awaited Netflix show Sweet Home returned for season 2. If you aren’t familiar with this South Korean gore-fest, you’re not alone. But it is a popular series for fans who have followed the webtoon. It’s also had a two-year hiatus in between seasons with another one reportedly in the works.
The series follows, “Hyun, a loner high school student who lost his entire family in a terrible accident, is forced to leave his home and has to face a new reality where monsters are trying to wipe out all of humanity. Now he must fight against all odds to try and race against the clock to save what is left of the human race before it’s too late.”

Season two takes place in “A world where desire turns monstrous. The Green Home survivors and Hyun-su each fight to survive in new places, while other beings and mysterious phenomena emerge. New desires and more struggles unfold in this Netflix series.”
The first series was among one of Netflix’s highest-rated shows after its release. Praise went to its astounding special effects and character development. But many called out the lackluster tone in the final episodes of season one. Hopefully season two recaptures all the action, gore, and suspense that made the first such a favorite.

New Cruel Intentions Series Coming from Prime Video

The 90s were full of so much teenage angst it worked its way into every piece of media released during that decade. No movie symbolized that sense of angst and sex appeal than Cruel Intentions.
The film was a huge hit in its own right. Cruel Intention spawned two sequels and most recently a musical was created to celebrate the film’s glory. Deadline.com released an article today that should bring joy to anyone looking to soak up some of that sweet 90s nostalgia. Prime Video will be creating an 8 episode series based on the Cruel Intentions film.

Deadline reports that this project has been in the works since 2021 and will be released via Amazon Prime Video. Cruel Intentions is written by Phoebe Fisher (Assassination Nation) and Sara Goodman (Preacher). Sony Pictures Television will be attached as well as Amazon MGM Studios.

The cast of Cruel Intentions will include Sarah Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Bring Me Back), Savannah Smith (Gossip Girl), Sara Silva (The Boys), Khobe Clarke (Yellowjackets), John Harlan Kim (Nancy Drew), Brooke Lena Johnson (The Crying Dead), Sean Patrick Thomas (Gen V), Claire Forlani (Mystery Men), Nikki Crawford (Criminal Minds), Isabella Tagliati (Scuba), Zeke Goodman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), and Jon Tenney (Tombstone).

True Detective: Night Country Drops New Trailer

Time is a flat circle. Luckily that circle is filled with more seasons of True Detective. And fans won’t have to wait long for the next installment of this iconic series. True Detective: Night Country will be released on Max on January 14th, 2024.

True Detective showed audiences what a well done horror/drama series could accomplish with the right talent and script. Mixing in down to earth problems with a Lovecraftian flair impressed fans and critics alike. Unfortunately, True Detective was unable to live up to those expectations in the following seasons.
But that doesn’t mean the studio should stop trying to exceed expectations again. Max seems to realize this and is going all out for this season. True Detective: Night Country is written by Issa Lopez (Tigers are Not Afraid). And will star Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs) along with Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One).
This will be the first season of True Detective that will not feature Nic Pizzolatto (The Magnificent Seven). But that may be for the best. Sometimes a change is needed for a show to grow and reach its potential. Only time will tell.
This time around our detectives will be battling against the Alaskan winter as well as whatever cult like activity that they come across. All in all, I am very excited for this season of the show. Let’s just hope that True Detective wasn’t just a flash in the pan.
That’s all the information we have for you at this time. Make sure to check out the new trailer below. As always, make sure to check back here for updates and all of your horror news.
