Audiences got one heck of a treat this week with SNL. The latest holiday-focused episode featured both Martin Short and Steve Martin co-hosting a very funny sketch outing. The SNL alum brought their A-game and the results were hilarious. One sketch, in particular, focused on spoofing A Christmas Carol. And things got so violent so quickly that a lot of fans took to their socials to announce how upset they were with the level of violence.
The sketch opens up on the finale of A Christmas Carol. Scrooge (Short) finally learns the meaning of Christmas and wants to share his wealth with the town below his window. However, Scrooge misjudges his own strength and how sharp some coins are. The result is a good deed of sharing a coin becomes said coins being buried deep in the townsfolk’s ocular cavities.
The gory chaos only gets worse and worse as things go along. Before you know it, a horse is spooked and kicks the head off of its owner and the sketch goes into Saving Private Ryan levels of steady cam pandemonium.

The entire thing is hilarious and lends itself to sketch troops like Mr. Show and Monty Python rather than SNL. A nice change of pace for the show. I will say though. This season of SNL has really brought a fresh and funnier voice after a few years of being hit-or-miss.
Both Martin and Short absolutely killed it as co-hosts. And this A Christmas Carol sketch being a faux ad for Apple Pay just put a very funny cherry on the whole thing.
