When Saw X was released in theaters last September, the film became a huge hit among fans, critics, and at the box office. The audience felt the same way and it showed at the box office. This was sure to spark a sequel and it did with Saw XI being announced shortly after Saw X’s success. The film is set to debut in theaters on September 27th of this year. While not much is known about this film, an interview with one of the producers sheds light on what it may be about.
In an interview with GamesRadar’s SFX Magazine, producer Oren Koules was asked about the development of Saw XI. He said, “Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are in a foreign country still. So that, to me, would be the natural place to take at least the next one.” This seems to confirm that the film will be a direct sequel to the tenth installment. The film is still in early development, so this may be subject to change at any given time.
Saw X was the first in the franchise to be certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 80% for critics and 89% for audience. The movie made an impressive $111.8M on a $13M Budget. The Saw Franchise is the fifth highest-grossing horror franchise with a total of ten films released so far. The franchise overall has made over $1.1B in the global box office.
Saw X followed the story of “John Kramer who travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure, only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer uses deranged and ingenious traps to turn the tables on the con artists.”
This is exciting news and helps shed some light on what storyline the sequel will follow.
