Raimi & ‘Barbarian’ Studio Team Join Forces For New Title

Published

on

Sam Raimi is having a helluva year. His Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the third largest-grossing film of the year. And his production of Evil Dead Rise was bumped from streaming-only to an actual theatrical release.

It was also a good year for executive producer Alex Lebovici whose Hammerstone Studio’s title Barbarian stands as the 37th top-grossing film of the year. Considering bigger titles such as Beast and X raked in less money, is a testament to his intuition.

Barbarian (2022)

Now, Deadline reports, the two producers are collaborating for the new horror thriller Don’t Move for Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Studios.

Don’t Move watches as a seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent. She must then run, fight and hide before her body completely shuts down.” — Deadline

Adam Schindler and Brian Netto will take the director’s chair for the project. Raimi has used the duo before for his 50 States of Fright anthology series which lies in the archives of the now-defunct Quibi platform.

“It’s amazingly exciting for us to reunite with the genre master Sam Raimi, and Zainab Azizi, who yet again have found two extremely talented young filmmakers in Adam and Brian to bring Don’t Move to life,” said Lebovici. “We are honored to be part of such a fantastic project.”

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Raimi adds: “Alex and the team at Hammerstone as well as our friends at Capstone are the ideal production partners as we bring this compelling and twisted tale to light. I am delighted to collaborate again with our co-directors Adam and Brian on this incredibly frightening and tense story full of so many twists and turns – it will deliver a fantastic horror punch to the audience!”

It’s surprising that Raimi, 63, hasn’t been attached to more horror titles in recent memory. His knowledge of the genre and ability to make a compelling story visually stunning means that he could punch up almost any script with substance and style.

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

His last directorial horror hit was Drag Me to Hell back in 2009. Since then he has left the directing to others while funding movies as a producer. But even those films aren’t up to par with what we normally see from Raimi. Last year he served us Umma which left something to be desired and before that it was The Unholy and Don’t Breathe 2, both subpar entries according to some fans.

However, his 2023 production roster is looking better with Evil Dead Rise, 65, and Boy Kills World. Still, there are no titles slated in the near future with him as the director.

New ‘The Watchers’ Trailer Adds More to the Mystery

Published

on

Although the trailer is almost double its original, there is still nothing we can glean from The Watchers other than a harbinger parrot who loves to say, “Try not to die.” But what do you expect this is a Shyamalan project, Ishana Night Shyamalan to be exact.

She is the daughter of twist-ending prince director M. Night Shyamalan who also has a movie coming out this year. And just like her father, Ishana is keeping everything mysterious in her movie trailer.

“You can’t see them, but they see everything,” is the tagline for this movie.

They tell us in the synopsis: “The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

The Watchers opens theatrically on June 7.
