Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise is taking the Necronomicon and its Deadites to the city in the latest chapter. The Sam Raimi-produced Evil Dead film is bringing things to a large apartment building and setting loose the sinister powers of a Deadite army. The image features one of our heroes making use of a boomstick, complete with a blood-soaked face… Papa Ash would be proud.
Evil Dead Rise sounds like it has a lot in common with Lamberto Bava’s Demons 2. If you recall in the second Demons chapter – sinister forces are unleashed through televisions in an apartment building. As the demons spread, it falls to the survivors to fight back and make it out alive. Evil Dead Rise sounds a lot like it has some big similarities. The synopsis goes like this:
“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
See what I mean? There is a little bit of crossover between Demons 2 and Evil Dead Rise. I’m not saying that in any sort of perfunctory way. In fact, I can’t wait to see what hell is unleashed in Cronin’s Evil Dead apartment building.
