The first episode of Netflix’s new series, The Midnight Club has made a Guinness World Record. The premiere episode titled “The Final Chapter” has a record amount of jump scares.
These jump scares aren’t to be taken seriously, however. Director, Mike Flanagan cleverly introduces 21 jump scares as a comment on the overuse of jump scares in films today. It is commenting on how the method of the jump scare is kinda a cheap thrill.
The scene arrives by way of one of The Midnight Club’s stories. The tale involves a J-Horror-like tale that keeps the jump scares coming in a hilarious fast pace. One after the other. There i one hilarious bit that even involves the good ole cat thrown from out of nowhere gag.
“I thought, ‘We are going to do all of them at once, and then if we do it right, a jump scare will be rendered meaningless for the rest of the series.’ It’ll just destroy it. Kill it finally until it’s dead, But that didn’t happen. They were like, ‘Great! More!’” director Flanagan told Deadline.
The Midnight Club is currently streaming on Netflix.
