Published

on

The upcoming film Family Dinner looks  to be a real slice of disturbing pie. The Austrian film by director, Peter Hengl looks to shake up both family ties and dieting in the first very disturbing trailer for the film.

Family Dinner is about to have its premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on June 10! It looks like a genre film that we can’t wait to dig into for sure.

Dinner

The synopsis for Family Dinner goes like this:

Tired of feeling down about her weight, plus-sized 15-year-old Simi (Nina Katlein) heads to her aunt Claudia’s house for Easter weekend. Claudia (Pia Hierzegger) is a popular nutritionist who’s written best-selling health books, so for Simi, spending a few days together could help change her diet and inspire weight loss. What should’ve been a nice holiday weekend with family, however, quickly reveals itself to be anything but. Simi’s cousin, Filipp (Alexander Sladek), is curiously hostile towards her, while Filipp’s stepdad, Stefan (Michael Pink), is curiously the opposite towards Simi, all while Claudia’s dietary guidance verges on becoming overly militant. What’s causing everyone to act so strangely and aggressively? The answers are even worse than Simi’s worst nightmares.

Family Dinner is still seeking distribution. So, we will let you know when it is headed to theaters and to digital and where you can watch it.

‘Margaux’ Trailer Traps Guests in a Killer Smart Home

Published

Margaux

Margaux is the ultimate smart home that might also be the ultimate killer. Director Steven C. Miller of Silent Night and First Kill fame brings this techno-thriller to another level. The insanely smart home has all sorts of bells and whistles like walls that are made entirely from 3D printers. Meaning the walls themselves can create anything you desire all around you. Of course, this also means the smart house gone bad can create anything it desires in order to kill you.

The synopsis goes like this:

What Margaux wants, she gets. As a group of seniors celebrate their final college days at a smart house, the house’s highly advanced AI system, Margaux, begins to take on a deadly presence of her own. A carefree weekend of partying turns into a dystopian nightmare as they realize Margaux’s plans to eliminate her tenants one way or another. Time begins to run out as the group desperately tries to survive and outsmart the smart home.

Margaux arrives on digital beginning September 9.

‘The Ring’ Comes to Blu-Ray Steelbook Complete With VHS Slipcase Design

Published

Ring

Japan’s entry into J-Horror with Ringu was one of the best that there has ever been. When America decided to do a remake, I can still recall a lot of people being upset that it wouldn’t measure up. However, Gore Verbenski’s dark portrait was nearly a better film than the original. From its ominous start to shocking finish The Ring was effective around every corner. 20 years later folks can still appreciate Verbenski’s film and in order to celebrate the film turning 20 we are getting a cool steelbook blu-ray for the film.

The steelbook comes with an awesome VHS design slipcase. Inside the steelbook is made of static and the iconic scene with Samara and the well.

The synopsis for The Ring goes like this:

It sounds like just another urban legend — a videotape filled with nightmarish images leads to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. Newspaper reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) is skeptical of the story until four teenagers all die mysteriously exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery.

Verbinki’s film is genuinely scary and it entirely deserves a 20th anniversary release. It is a film that has managed to stay in the conversation when horror films are being discussed. It still manages to get heavy play during the Halloween season on AMC. Rightfully so.

You can pick up your copy of The Ring’s special edition beginning October 18.
