Home video releases aren’t something that’s talked about enough in the horror community. Although streaming has dominated to film industry for the past decade, home video releases have always been the best way to enjoy films.

That isn’t only because you actually own the product and don’t have to worry about it just disappearing one day. The biggest selling point is the fact that it provides the highest quality resolution for the film. The average streaming service offers about half of the bit rate of Blu-ray.

Luckily, fans have gotten keen on this, and services have started pumping out 4k Blu-ray editions of classic horror films. Not only do these copies look fantastic but also often offer behind the scenes options for fans to dig their teeth into. If all of that sounds awesome to you, check out the list below for this week’s newly released horror home video releases.

Satanic Hispanics-DVD-December 19th

Satanic Hispanics

Satanic Hispanics has made a big splash in the indie circuit this year. Not only for being an amazing piece of representation for Latino horror. But also, because it’s one of the few anthology films released recently that manages to pull off the difficult format.

There is a huge number of anthologies released each year that flop immediately after release. Satanic Hispanics didn’t just survive its indie circuit, it killed the competition. If you haven’t been able to watch the film or just want to see what commentary is offered, go grab the DVD on December 19th. Order the DVD here!

The Exorcist: Believer-DVD-December 19th

Ok, this film didn’t exactly do well during its theatrical run. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a dedicated fanbase that will clamor for this physical media release. Even people who may not like the film are likely to grab a copy just to fill their Exorcist DVD collection. You can order the DVD here.

As shameful as it is, I have a copy of Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist sitting on my shelf for just this reason. And who knows, maybe the behind the scenes feature will give audiences some insight into how this film ended up performing so poorly.

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls-Blue-ray-December 19th

Order the DVD here!

If you haven’t already heard of this flick from Bloody Disgusting, you need to grab this Blu-ray. Assuming you are into to campy, goofy, horror films filled with horror icons that is. This horror comedy made a splash at Sundance this past year and is finally getting a true Blu-ray release.

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls represents a type of horror film that we don’t see too often these days. A film that doesn’t take itself seriously and tries to have fun, while still having a budget of more than a nickel. Order the DVD here!

The Ghost Station-DVD-December 19th

Order the DVD here!

Korean horror has given us some of the best movies of the decade. We can only hope that this tradition keeps producing amazing content in the genre. The Ghost Station is brought to us by Amazon Prime Video Singapore division, and it looks truly unsettling.

This film actually provides a great option for fans who prefer to stream their horror. Direct to streaming films are often lost forever if the service shuts down or pulls the title. Most of these films do not have a physical option for purchase. If you enjoyed this film or just K-horror in general, it may be a good idea to snag this DVD while you can.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines-DVD-December 19th

Here is another example of a reboot that didn’t fare very well upon release. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was criticized for being an unwanted addition to a beloved franchise. To that I say, have you ever seen Pet Sematary 2?

That film was also criticized in a similar manner but has now developed a cult classic status among horror fans. Let the dust settle a bit and I imagine this will be regarded in the same way. For that reason alone, it will likely end up on my DVD stand. Order the DVD here!
