It’s been so long since the last installment of Planet of the Apes; where did we leave off?

That might not matter because the new teaser trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place way after the events of the previous three. Humans are still obsolete while the apes rule over everything the sun touches.

This film was originally announced back in 2016. The original movies from the ’70s, along with the remake from Tim Burton (2001), and the reboot series were all controlled by 20th Century Fox until Disney purchased that company in 2019. This will be the first film released under that merged banner.

Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant) is directing, and according to the overview he, “breathes new life into the global, epic, franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Expect this one on May 24, 2024.
