It appears that a sequel to 2015’s The Last Witch Hunter is in development according to IMDb. The original film starring Vin Diesel tanked at the box office, only regaining $27 million of its $90 million budget. The film also didn’t do well with critics with Rotten Tomatoes calling it “boring” and “confusing.”

But bad numbers and reviews appear not to have stopped Lionsgate Films from wanting to resurrect the fantasy/action film; they are listed as both producer and distributor (under their Summit banner) on IMDb Pro. That information was updated in late June of this year. Keep in mind, that the writer’s strike started in May of 2023, putting a damper on the creatives who could have been actively writing the screenplay.

As a side note: a sequel was already planned for the film back in 2015, but due to poor box-office returns and reviews it never materialized. However, with this 2023 update, and since the words “in development” are used on IMDb, it seems they are throwing around the idea once again.

In the original film, Diesel played a centuries-old witch hunter named Kaulder who is cursed with immortality by the spiteful Queen Witch just before he kills her. Her armies are destroyed, but a few survive through the ages and are currently living in modern times. Kaulder seeks to destroy the evil stragglers but is unaware that the Queen Witch has come back to life seeking vengeance against him.

Along with Diesel, the film also starred Michael Caine, Elijah Wood, and Julie Engelbrecht.

Diesel’s other film that was seemingly affected by the actor’s and writer’s strike is Riddick 4: Furya. This movie was hyped by Diesel himself. Dressed in costume, he even went so far as to tease fans about the movie on social media back in April of 2023. But there have been no updates about this project since then.
