It seems like ages ago when American Horror Story was appointment television. One of the best seasons ever was Coven; that was way back in 2013!
Cordelia Foxx and her private school for witches was the setting and lots of things happened in that establishment like releasing the real-life Axeman of New Orleans through a spirit board. It might be good news that he was released from the house because it is currently on the market for a meager $4.5 million.
Fictionalized accounts and fantasy aside, this is a beautiful mansion with seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. And it even has a basement. Take a 3-D tour of the house HERE.
The listing on Zillow gives a little history of the house:
“The Buckner Mansion, built in 1856 for Henry Sullivan Buckner, is one of the largest and most beautiful 19th-century homes in New Orleans. This imposing Greek revival mansion is the largest surviving home designed by Lewis E. Reynolds, one of the city’s most talented architects of the mid-1800s, and is one of the finest examples of Southern architecture to be found anywhere.”
Production Designer for Coven, Mark Worthington, told Hooked on Houses in 2015, “We knew we wanted the rooms to be light in tone. So we came down to New Orleans and the idea was to find an old antebellum mansion in the Garden District, a Greco-Roman revival, which starts from a base of being lighter. I started pulling research (of) interiors that had a lot of white walls, white floor, lighter tones with darker furniture, creating contrast.”
Coven consisted of 13 episodes and starred Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, and Kathy Bates. Special guest stars include Gabourey Sidibe (who just recently became a mother), Stevie Nicks, and Angela Bassett. It received 17 Primetime Emmy nominations winning two for Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange.
Although American Horror Story isn’t as popular as it once was, at least a little bit of Hollywood history is preserved in New Orleans with one lucky buyer getting an expensive prop from one of television’s most famous locations.
