Horror fans have managed to be both lucky and unlucky when it comes to their favorite horror franchises being brought to life for video game adaptations. They have been lucky because this list includes Friday the 13, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead and Killer Klowns From Outer Space. They are unlucky because these games are all being slapped together with the same multiplayer, asymmetrical formula. A formula that has been used a little too much as of late. The latest game to be given the asymmetrical, multiplayer approach is Full Moon’s Puppet Master: The Game.
In the game’s first trailer we can see that it is a humans vs. puppets-based game. This same formula is being applied to both Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Game and Killer Klowns From Outer Space the Game. While the approach was a lot of fun when Friday the 13th The Game first arrived, this type of game is beginning to need some innovation.
These games have also been receiving a secondary, slapped-on single-player version that usually has its player running around in a contained area finding items on a checklist. We are hoping that Puppet Master: The Game and the above-mentioned games all come up with new ways to keep this formula fresh. We are also hopeful that we see a game from a big franchise arrive that goes back to giving us a fully written and dedicated single-player experience.
Puppet Master: The Game takes us back to a familiar seaside hotel. Where puppets once again reap havoc on a group of folks who have to fight to survive.
You will be given the chance to check out Puppet Master: The Game when it heads into open beta beginning March 1, 2023. Head over to Steam to add it to your wishlist.
