One downside of having too much content to watch in the modern streaming era is that if a new series doesn’t make the cut it is canceled fast. The latest series to meet that kind of fate is Netflix’s 1899.
Creators, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar took to Instagram to announce that Netflix had decided to cancel the series.
“With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed,” co-showrunners bo Odar and Friese wrote on their Instagram. “We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned.”
The synopsis for 1899 went like this:
1899. A migrant steamship heads west to leave the old continent. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship adrift on the open sea.
It is a shame that the co-creators weren’t allowed one more season to finish up their story. A lot of fans did invest multiple hours into the series after all.
What do you think about the cancellation of 1899?
