Netflix Nabs ‘Incantation,’: Record-Setting Taiwanese Horror Film
Maybe it was the success of The Sadness, maybe it’s because the movie Incantation is the highest-grossing horror movie in Taiwanese history, or maybe because it’s just plain good, but Netflix has taken notice and the film will stream on the platform starting July 8, 2022, in the U.S.
Whatever the reason, Incantation is getting buzz as being one of the scariest movies of 2022. It’s a cross-genre chiller with elements ranging from mockumentary to found footage. It was released in Tawain this past March and it became the highest-grossing film of the year so far.
“It has always been my dream to make films that travel around the world and are watched by every horror fan on Earth, keeping them awake at night. I can’t wait to hear viewers’ reactions,” said writer/director Kevin Ko.
The movie travels familiar territory:
Six years ago, Li Ronan was cursed after breaking a religious taboo. Now, she must protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions. This found footage film is inspired by a true story.
Janelle Ong, Netflix’s Chinese-language content acquisition manager, said to The Hollywood Reporter: “Asian horror has been very influential in shaping the genre and bringing it to new heights, and we are proud to partner with a new generation of Asian filmmakers who are creating the movies that will define what terror means for today’s viewers.”

New ‘The Watchers’ Trailer Adds More to the Mystery
Although the trailer is almost double its original, there is still nothing we can glean from The Watchers other than a harbinger parrot who loves to say, “Try not to die.” But what do you expect this is a Shyamalan project, Ishana Night Shyamalan to be exact.
She is the daughter of twist-ending prince director M. Night Shyamalan who also has a movie coming out this year. And just like her father, Ishana is keeping everything mysterious in her movie trailer.
“You can’t see them, but they see everything,” is the tagline for this movie.
They tell us in the synopsis: “The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”
The Watchers opens theatrically on June 7.

‘Founders Day’ Finally Getting a Digital Release
For those who were wondering when Founders Day was going to make it to digital, your prayers have been answered: May 7.

So what happened to Founders Day? It was a January baby but hasn’t been available to rent on digital until now. Not to worry, JoBlo via Coming Soon reports that the elusive slasher is heading to your digital rental queue early next month.
“A small town is shaken by a series of ominous killings in the days leading up to a heated mayoral election.”
Although the film isn’t considered a critical success, it still has some nice kills and surprises. The film was shot in New Milford , Connecticut back in 2022 and falls under the Dark Sky Films horror banner.
It stars Naomi Grace , Devin Druid , William Russ , Amy Hargreaves , Catherine Curtin , Emilia McCarthy and Olivia Nikkanen

New F-Bomb Laden ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer: Bloody Buddy Movie
Deadpool & Wolverine might be the buddy movie of the decade. The two heterodox superheroes are back in the latest trailer for the summer blockbuster, this time with more f-bombs than a gangster film.
This time the focus is on Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman. The adamantium-infused X-Man is having a bit of a pity party when Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) arrives on the scene who then tries to convince him to team up for selfish reasons. The result is a profanity-filled trailer with a Strange surprise at the end.
Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It comes out on July 26. Here is the latest trailer, and we suggest if you are at work and your space isn’t private, you might want to put in headphones.
