Amazon has given the greenlight to a series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s genre-bending novel Anansi Boys. The author is writing the series with legendary British comedian and actor Sir Lenny Henry.

Anansi Boys first hit bookshelves back in 2005 and featured a character, Mr. Nancy, who fans of Gaiman were previously introduced to in 2001’s American Gods. The novel’s synopsis reads:

Fat Charlie Nancy’s normal life ended the moment his father dropped dead on a Florida karaoke stage. Charlie didn’t know his dad was a god. And he never knew he had a brother. Now brother Spider is on his doorstep—about to make Fat Charlie’s life more interesting . . . and a lot more dangerous.

The new series adaptation comes as part of an overall deal that Gaiman inked with Amazon Studios several years ago that also saw the adaptation of Good Omens, a novel he wrote with friend and mentor Terry Pratchett. A second season of Good Omens was recently announced for Amazon, as well.

The author took to Twitter to announce the upcoming series and to share the official poster design which you can see below.

In addition, the author linked to a blog post where he shared “All the information I can reveal about Anansi Boys.”

The post, which can be read in full here, details the writing of the novel and how Henry also played a part in its inception over 20 years ago. He also gave a clue to casting, though no official names have yet been released.

I’ll give you one clue: one of our cast members was on a public event with me at some point in the last five years. The first thing she said when we met backstage was that her favourite book was the audiobook of Anansi Boys, read by Lenny Henry. And when I told her that there was a part in the book I’d originally written with her in mind, she was overjoyed. So when it became a reality, she was the first person I asked, and the first to agree.

iHorror will keep you posted on all the latest news for Anansi Boys as it becomes available.
