Short, jump-scare video games don’t seem like they would make for successful feature-length horror movies but don’t tell Freddy Fazbear that.

And don’t tell Fede Alvarez that his Evil Dead remake won’t be the bloodiest movie of all time after 2025.

The correlation between these two statements is Mark Fischbach’s Iron Lung; a movie based on an indy survival video game that literally takes place in an ocean made entirely of the red fluid.

Back in 2013 Evil Dead had the prestigious honor of using over 70K gallons of fake blood, making it the bloodiest movie of all time which was mostly seen in the rain scene.

“Yeah. That’s a lot of blood,” Alvarez said in a 2013 interview. “That’s a thing we’re trying to measure, because sometimes we go too over the top, and there’s a lot of blood and we go “Eh.” But somebody joked because the other day I said “Okay, that was too much blood.” And they all said “Wow, wow that’s the first time we’ve heard that so far.” Usually I ask for more. There’s always a tone that you have to hit right in horror. With the blood, you want to make sure that it makes sense all along. You choose one style, right? Like the way an arm bleeds when you cut. It could look so many different ways and not look in the style of the movie, right? We’re kind of a little bit…sometimes we’re a little bit too Japanese I would say. It’s kind of that sharp, flat, we have some of that kind of stuff. I mean, that’s what I like. But yeah, it’s pretty over the top sometimes.”

Iron Lung

Fischbach doesn’t seem intimidated by Alvarez’s accomplishment. Iron Lung will be the YouTuber’s (aka Markiplier) directorial debut. He is working closely with the game’s developer for his adaptation.

It took a little longer to make thanks to the actor’s strike, but the film is finally complete and according to Fischbach it just needs to overcome some…red tape. “Negotiating with theaters is a very complicated process,” Fischbach said, adding that he hopes his film will be in theaters soon. It is anticipated to be released in 2025.

We will keep you posted.
