Casting is underway for the Peacock/A24 production of Crystal Lake, a prequel series based on the Friday the 13th horror franchise. It seems like it’s been years since this project was announced, and honestly, it has.
Sadly there are no details on where this series is taking Friday the 13th, but we do have casting news.
Deadline announced today that Devin Kessler (Godfather of Harlem), Cameron Scoggins (Shades of Blue, Nashville), and Gwendolyn Sundstrom have been cast. They will star along side Linda Cardellini and William Catlett.
Cardellini, who you may remember as Velma in the Scooby Doo movies, will play Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason Voorhees. Catlett plays Levon Brooks. Kessler will portray Briana Brooks; Scoggins, Dorf; and Sundstrom a character named Grace.
Per Deadline: “Crystal Lake is executive produced by A24, Brad Caleb Kane, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil. Directors will include: Michael Lennox (101-103), who also executive produces, Celine Held, Logan George (104-106), and Quyen Tran (107-108).”
What will be interesting is how Jason will be portrayed. Remember Sean S. Cunningham owns the rights to hockey-masked Jason. Since this is a prequel, that might not be a problem, but most people know him by his famous covered facade which he didn’t wear until part three.
Which brings us to another question: how old was Jason during the events of part one, and how far back will the series take us? These will hopefully be answered once the series premieres. We hope it’s this year, but more than likely in 2026.
