Melissa Barrera who plays Samantha on the popular slasher Scream movie franchise has been fired from the upcoming seventh installment allegedly due to her perceived anti-semitic social media posts.

The star hasn’t been shy about her pro-Palestine stance, posting several images and thoughts in her feed. About a month ago, the Mexican-born actress wrote, “I too come from a colonized country. Palestine WILL be free.” She added: “they tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds.”

Although there is no official casting news for Scream 7, Barrera is the lead actress in the rebooted series, often considered to be the successor to the original heroine Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).

In response to Barrera being dropped from Scream VII, Spyglass issued the statement, “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Variety had this to say about why producers fired Melissa Barrera from the ‘Scream VII’ Production: In the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attacks and Israel’s subsequent attacks on Gaza, Barrera has been posting on her Instagram about the conflict, resharing a post that accuses Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” and one from Jewish Currents magazine about distorting “the Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry.”

This is a breaking story and iHorror will bring you updates as they become available.
