Kevin Williamson on Stu Macher for ‘Scream 6’: “No, he’s dead.”

Published

on

There have been a lot of fan theories floating around about the upcoming movie Scream 6. One of the most prevalent is that Stuart Macher, one of the killers from the first movie, is actually alive and continuing his rampage. Unless Radio Silence decides to retcon the entire franchise, it’s virtually impossible that Stu survived that heavy CRT television to his noggin.

That being said the makers of the last Scream brought back Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in an interesting way. And Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) in Scream 4, despite her deep stab wound, is back for the latest entry.

However, the original writer of Scream himself, Kevin Williamson, has confirmed through Collider that Stu Macher, played by Matthew Lillard, is most definitely deceased.

“No, he’s dead. I think that started because of the college scene, the frat party scene because he’s standing in the background. He just came to visit set that night.” — Kevin Williamson

One of the reasons why we love the Scream franchise is because it takes the rules of scary movies and turns them on their head. Although they follow the horror movie formula they still allow themselves some wiggle room to adjust the recipe. How far will they go? Could the first one have all been a dream? Would they bring back a dead legacy character using supernatural means? Probably not, it’s not that type of universe.

Scream stans have been a flutter with theories ever since eagle-eyed fans saw Lillard make a cameo as an extra in Scream 2. But wait. It’s been reported that Stu would have returned in Scream 3 had the original script not been scrapped. That would mean, despite continuity, Williamson had some inclination to have Stu survive in part one.

Hollywood has the propensity to lie about storylines. They hate being figured out prematurely. But they are smart, and if some theorists are right in their conjecture, they go silent. The fact that Williamson himself has gone on record to dispel any rumors about Stu’s return says something. Either he is being honest and Stu is actually dead or he’s playing us and Scream 6 will have the biggest-ever reveal in the series’ history.

Hey, there is always Scream 7!

New ‘The Watchers’ Trailer Adds More to the Mystery

Published

on

Although the trailer is almost double its original, there is still nothing we can glean from The Watchers other than a harbinger parrot who loves to say, “Try not to die.” But what do you expect this is a Shyamalan project, Ishana Night Shyamalan to be exact.

She is the daughter of twist-ending prince director M. Night Shyamalan who also has a movie coming out this year. And just like her father, Ishana is keeping everything mysterious in her movie trailer.

“You can’t see them, but they see everything,” is the tagline for this movie.

They tell us in the synopsis: “The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

The Watchers opens theatrically on June 7.
