Junji Ito’s work has been singular. His work in body horror is as compelling as it is deeply disturbing. Tomie, No Longer Human, Uzumaki and others have all been equally great. His work in Manga has been adapted in the past. His film adaptation of Tomie was a pretty fun one. Finally, Ito is being given free rein to go wild with this particular package of Japanese Tales of the Macabre. That’s right, Ito has a series coming to Netflix that is a highlight of his tales in an animated anthology format.
The short trailer gives us quick flashes of each episode title followed by a quick 3 or 4 frames before moving onto the next one. The overall vibe is entirely Ito and brings some stories that look familiar as well as some new tales.

The synopsis for Tomie went like this:
Following some trauma in her past that has since been repressed, a young woman tries to recover her memories with the help of a psychiatrist.

We cannot wait to catch Ito’s new Junji Ito to Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre on Netflix beginning January 19.
