From now until Halloween, horror movie fans are getting treated to some big-name films in very short increments which equates to a theater crawl every weekend for the next two months.
This weekend the positively rated The Nun II kicks off the lineup, next weekend A Haunting in Venice, and after that, It Lives Inside.
Then each weekend (except Oct. 20) until October 27 a new horror movie gets theater screen time including Saw X, Exorcist: Believer, Dear David, and finally Five Nights at Freddy’s.
This is great for horrorphiles looking to celebrate the season by way of popcorn, a reclining seat, and Dolby Atmos, preferably at the local theater chain.
The question is: which movie will take in the most revenue when it is all said and done? Our money is on Exorcist: Believer. The movie is a legacy sequel with a legacy character and a legacy villain. Anyone over the age of 50 is going to be curious about the sequel to “The Scariest Movie Ever Made,” and their millennial counterparts are going to want to judge it for themselves as a stand-alone.
Then I predict Saw X for about the same reasons as above, but the generation gap isn’t as expansive: Gen X and Millenials actually share this one.
Then the Nun II because it’s getting good word of mouth despite the widely panned original. We call that the Ouija: Origin of Evil effect.
Number four in revenue will probably be Five Nights at Freddy’s because it is based on a relatively newish video game and also has a same-day release on Peacock.
Rounding out the top 5 in sales will probably be Dear David. It’s a “true story” based on a creepy social media diary that went viral.
At the bottom of the list are A Haunting in Venice and It Lives inside. Venice is a niche crossover that has limited appeal, and no one has heard of It Lives Inside until probably this writing.

- Oct. 27 — “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (Universal/streaming same day on Peacock)
