We haven’t seen a horror drop like this for a long time. What’s more, most on this list you can watch at home. Even better, if you subscribe to either MAX or Hulu, you can watch them for free.
First, and perhaps the most anticipated, is Samara Weaving’s new film, Borderline. We are so glad Samara is honoring her status as a modern scream queen. Borderline is written and directed by Jimmy Warden who penned the Cocaine Bear script in 2023.
In the movie theater space is Opus, a film that premiered at Sundance this year to mixed reviews. It’s been described as a cult horror movie with thematic dips into other tropes.
The Chicago-Sun Times had this to say: “[Director] Green is clearly talented and delivers consistently arresting visuals, but the messages are delivered with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, and the performances from the skilled cast are often way, way over the top.”
In addition to the above, Control Freak and The Parenting are also movies fans have been looking forward to; they haven’t gotten glowing reviews—the former scoring better than the latter.
Now that we have planned out your movie-watching weekend, enjoy. And as always, let us know what you thought of each film.
