As we learned last night, the 2013 Evil Dead remake is getting an extended Blu-ray release this coming October, which is serious music to our ears right about now. But what about a sequel to the Fede Alvarez-directed film? Will we ever seen one? Will new character Mia perhaps meet up with Bruce Campbell’s Ash at some point in the future? We’ve got a little update, straight from Alvarez.
During a recent AMA session over on Reddit to promote new film Don’t Breathe, Alvarez spoke a bit about the idea of making a sequel to Evil Dead, noting that he may eventually get around to writing a script.
“We might write a sequel at some point,” said Alvarez, referring to himself and co-writer Rodo Sayagues. “And [the] tone won’t be a comedy, but it won’t be like my Evil Dead either. We need to honor the fact that every Evil Dead always departs from whatever the previous one was, don’t you think?”
For now, Sam Raimi and everyone else involved in the Evil Dead franchise seems to be entirely focused on Ash vs. Evil Dead, but it’s good to know that the door is being left often for a potential sequel to the remake. As we mentioned above, there have been rumors of the remake franchise crossing over with the television series (aka the original franchise), but at the moment, no plans are in motion.
Stay tuned for updates!
