Not many reboots, remakes, or sequels can live up to their respective originals, but Fede Álvarez’s is an exception to that rule. He had the daunting task of rebooting one of horror-doms most revered franchises, The Evil Dead, on this date back in 2013.
Earning over $97 million worldwide, the movie proved to be not only a theatrical success but an instant classic among franchise fans. That might have been a different story had it not been for the advice of the original’s director, Sam Raimi.
You see, our final girl Mia has a dire fate in the original script. But Álvarez says that Sam Raimi pointed out, “after everything she’s been through, she deserves to live.” So Álvarez re-wrote the ending and it is as you see it today.
