‘Doctor Who’ and ‘House of the Dragons’ Star Matt Smith Also Played ‘American Psycho’s’ Patrick Bateman

Published

Smith

Matt Smith is an absolute icon, y’all. He played The Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who. Smith took over as the 11th Doctor’s regeneration. The actor had big shoes to fill as The Doctor following the amazing work that David Tennant did in the series. This week Smith joined the House of the Dragon as Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones epic tale’s prequel.

Smith has some gigantic horror roots that expand past his sci-fi and fantasy roles ass well. Those range from his work with Ryan Gosling on Lost River to his role in Charlie Says in which he played Charles Manson himself. I’ll chat about that movie more in a bit. But turns out that Smith is a huge fan of horror.

Back in 2013 American Psycho: The Musical opened with Matt Smith starring as Patrick Bateman. It was a heck of a premiere for someone that was an enormous fan of both American Psycho and Doctor Who. Following 56 performances between Matt Smith and Benjamin Walker.

The musical was a perfect limb of the book and film. They all fit together nicely in their own little realms. Plus, Smith was brilliant as Bateman and was able to entirely pull of the huger than huge 80s yuppie American accent. It was a perfect accent that original film actor, Christian Bale picked up from Tom Cruise’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Smith

I love that Smith has played both American Psycho and Charlie Says. Both of the roles pushed Smith away from the ultimate hero and zany Doc to very on the fringe characters and to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Smith’s role in House of the Dragon is already fantastic as someone who is already taking things to the most violent as he is able to pull off in the beginning.

Keep your eyes on the weekly episodes of House of the Dragon on HBO Max. It already looks like Smith is going to have brilliant and challenging arcs to go through.

All we keep wishing is that someway somehow the American Psycho Musical will become available to stream online. Or, hey bring it back to the stage!

Were any of you readers able to see American Psycho The Musical while it was running? If you did and have pictures please share! We would love to see them. Heck, even if you didn’t take pics, we would love to hear about it.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
