‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Casts a Spell for $195 Million After Saturday Night

Doctor Strange is Casting Some Serious Box Office Magic

by Trey Hilburn III

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has seriously worked some financial incantations over the weekend. After Saturday night the film has already made right around $190-$200 million. That’s not even the full weekend just yet. So, we can expect that to be much wider of a box office number when Sunday comes to a close.

The film has already been met with some split critical and audience responses. This doesn’t come as a surprise since this is a very different film than any other Marvel outings. For one, Doctor Strange is… well strange. It always has been since it deals with supernatural and the metaphysical. To add to that that director, Sam Raimi seriously made the film his own. It’s a Sam Raimi movie first and a Marvel movie second. It fully displays its colorful and imaginative horror side in the forefront.

It is the first Marvel movie with big jump scares and outright scary moments. I have to seriously hand it to Marvel for allowing Raimi to fully take control of this one and run with it as he saw fit. This is one of those occasions in which the people who didn’t quite enjoy the film yet, may just didn’t fully get it. Or at least didn’t get Raimi’s approach. After some time with the film, I honestly believe it will stand out as the time tested most interesting Marvel film.

The synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness goes like this:

Dr Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens a portal to the multiverse. However, a threat emerges that may be too big for his team to handle.

The Mother’s Day slump for big Marvel movies might have a slight effect on the film’s total box office as it has in the past, but that still places Doctor Strange in a very nice spot for its box office earnings over all.
