Blumhouse’s adaptation of Joe Hill’s book by the same name was a tense release that proved Ethan Hawke could be one hell of a villain. It also set up for the possibility of a sequel for director Scott Derrickson. Now, Universal and Blumhouse announced that The Black Phone sequel will also be the “launch of a sinister sequel”.

Derrickson is still involved in some capacity but still hasn’t taken on the role of director again. We will have to wait to see if he still jumps on board for a sequel.

There are no plot details for the sequel at the moment, but we are hoping that we get more Ethan Hawke somehow.

The synopsis for The Black Phone goes like this:

Finney Shaw is a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who’s being held in a soundproof basement by a sadistic, masked killer. When a disconnected phone on the wall starts to ring, he soon discovers that he can hear the voices of the murderer’s previous victims — and they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
