Casting has started for Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. Blumhouse put out a social media post on Thursday looking for 9 to 11-year-old girls for the part of Ginger. This will be Whannell’s second foray into the unofficial Dark Universe for Universal, his first was the horror hit The Invisible Man which was released during the pandemic and became the pioneer for seeing if people would pay top dollar to watch first-run releases at home.

The film, which is shooting in New Zealand, will star Christopher Abbott who replaces Ryan Gosling. This is a Universal/Blumhouse production and is scheduled to release in October of 2024.

There aren’t many details about the movie’s plot except that a man and his family are hunted by the monster of the title.

The reason we are labeling this as an unofficial entry into Universal’s Dark Universe is because that projected series of films was shelved after the failed Tom Cruise remake of The Mummy. However, this project does fall into the criteria for that schema; it is a reboot of a classic Universal monster.

Abbott is no stranger to horror movies. He had a part in 2017’s It Comes at Night and 2020’s Possessor. You can see him currently in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ trippy pseudo-Frankenstein movie Poor Things, starring Emma Stone.
