Maybe you didn’t like last year’s big budget Joker: Folie à Deux, but there is good news for the villian’s fans, the short film Jokers Wild is now available on YouTube and it stars David Howard Thornton. He plays the titular psychopath in this bloody 12 minute film.
Thornton has become the modern-day version of Lon Chaney who back in the early days of film was nicknamed “The man of a thousand faces” due to his ability to disguise himself under proesthetics and makeup. Thornton has made that his brand beginning with his work in the Terrifier film series playing Art the Clown. He went on to play the “Grinch” in The Mean One (2022), an unofficial horror rendition of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. He will play yet another monster in Screamboat, a horror movie that takes advantage of the now-public domain version of Mickey Mouse.
But you don’t have to wait until that comes out to see him. Jokers Wild is currently streaming on YouTube and its proof that you don’t need a major studio to employ massive talent.
The film is reminiscent of Ely Roth’s Hostel if it were to take place in the DC Universe. In the short film, The Joker has captured Batman’s sidekick Robin. Taunting and torturing him, The Joker doesn’t hold back on the bloodshed—it gets pretty violent.
