Bill Skarsgård is gearing up for the release of his movie The Crow, a reboot of a film franchise that hasn’t seen a new chapter since 2005. But Mr. Skarsgård might not be too thrilled about the ending of his movie.

In an interview with Esquire, the 33-year-old said the film wrapped two years ago which may have given him a fresh perspective and his main criticism was the ending. “I personally preferred something more definitive.” Could this mean he doesn’t want to return for sequels, or maybe he dislikes figurative question marks before the credits roll? We will have to wait and find out.

It’s no secret that Skarsgård has a lot riding on this film. His decision to play Eric, the supernatural vigilante, was a bold move. One, he had to step into the role originally played by Brandon Lee who tragically died on the set of the original because of a prop accident. And two, fans are very loyal to the source material and they will notice everything. This could set up lots of backlash if director Rupert Sanders took creative license with the lore.

Skarsgård’s recent film Boy Kills World has kind of the same revenge setup as The Crow does, but it’s a lot lighter and more tongue-in-cheek than Eric’s dark story. Still, Skarsgård’s performance in that film is what makes it so enjoyable even though his character only speaks via voiceover.

The bottom line is if The Crow manages to tick all the boxes in regard to respect and homage, and fans are open to this new vision, there will be a sequel. Skarsgård’s remarks already allude to one. As for if it’s wise for him to return? We will have to wait until August, when the movie hits theaters, to find out.
