Antonio Banderas (Interview with the Vampire) is set to star in a new limited series titled The Monster of Florence: A True Story.
The series is based on the true story of Italian journalist Mario Spezi, who teamed together with American author Douglas Preston to investigate a serial murderer in Florence who killed 14 people between 1974 and 1985. The Monster of Florence is drawn from the book by the same name.
Banderas will take on the role of Spezi whose investigation with Preston uncovered mistakes made by police during their search for the killer who targeted young couples meeting for romantic trysts in the Italian countryside. At one point, the pair were accused of crimes linked to the murders, themselves.
At this time, though there have been several accused, the killer has not actually been identified.
The Monster of Florence will be written by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Anders Thomas Jensen (Riders of Justice). Arcel will also direct the series. This is the second time the book has been adapted. It was previously adapted as an Italian film, Il mostro di Firenze.
There is no word yet on who will take on the role of the American author Douglas Preston, but iHorror will keep you posted on those details as they become available.
