Jeffrey Reddick Says the Next ‘Final Destination’ Has a Different “Formula”

Published

Destination

Final Destination is one of horror’s wildest rides. The franchise has always given us compelling and intricate set pieces that are all built around some unlucky SOB’s death. And boy was that a effective route to take. Try to find a horror fanĀ  who is dumb enough to keep driving behind a logging truck. That gets a big fat ‘nope’. It does appear that writer Jeffrey Reddick plans on mixing it up a little bit when it comes to the classic Final Destination blueprint that we are used to.

ā€œI will say that itā€™s not just going to be another kind of ā€˜we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.ā€™ Reddick told Dread Central. “And thereā€™s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit this one is a true Final DestinationĀ movie, but it doesnā€™t follow that kind of formula that weā€™ve kind of established.ā€

Past that bit of info Reddick remains tight-lipped about the direction that this Final Destination will take.

The sixth Final Destination is being produced by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Cop Car) and being written by Reddick for HBO Max.In addition both Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick are producing as well.

The synopsis for 2000’s Final Destination went like this:

Alex Browning (Devon Sawa), is embarking on a trip to Paris. Alex experiences a premonition — he sees the plane explode moments after leaving the ground. Alex insists that everyone get off the plane and 7 people including Alex, are forced to disembark. All watch as the plane actually explodes in a fireball. He and the other survivors have briefly cheated death, but will not be able to evade their fate for very long. One by one, these fugitives from fate fall victim to the grim reaper.

We can’t wait to see what Watts and Reddick have up their sleeve for fans. Final Destination has always been a franchise that the fans show up for. It’s definitely exciting to discover whatever happens next for both tricky ole’ Death and Final Destination.

Football star Travis Kelce is going Hollywood. At least that is what Dahmer Emmy award-winning star Niecy Nash-Betts announced on her Instagram page yesterday. She posted a video of herself on set of the new Ryan Murphy FX series Grotesquerie.

“This is what happens when WINNERS link upā€¼ļøĀ @killatravĀ Welcome to Grostequerie[sic]!” she wrote.

Standing just out of frame is Kelce who suddenly steps in to say, “Jumping into new territory with Niecy!” Nash-Betts appears to be in a hospital gown while Kelce is dressed as an orderly.

Not much is known about Grotesquerie, other than in literary terms it means a work filled with both science fiction and extreme horror elements. Think H.P. Lovecraft.

Back in February Murphy released an audio teaser for Grotesquerie on social media. In it, Nash-Betts says in part, “I donā€™t know when it started, I canā€™t put my finger on it, but itā€™sĀ differentĀ now. Thereā€™s been a shift, like somethingā€™s opening up in the world ā€” a kind of hole that descends into a nothingness…”

There hasn’t been an official synopsis released regarding Grotesquerie, but keep checking back to iHorror for further details.

Deadline is reporting that a new 47 Meters Down installment is heading into production, making the shark series a trilogy.Ā

ā€œSeries creator Johannes Roberts, and screenwriter Ernest Riera, who wrote the first two films, have co-written the third installment:Ā 47 Meters Down: The Wreck.ā€ Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine)Ā will direct.

The first two films were a moderate success, released in 2017 and 2019 respectively. The second film is titled 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.Ā

The plot for The Wreck is detailed by Deadline. They write that it involves a father and daughter trying to repair their relationship by spending time together scuba diving into a sunken ship, ā€œBut soon after their descent, their master diver has an accident leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks.ā€

The filmmakers are hoping to present the pitch to the Cannes market with production starting in the fall.Ā

ā€œ47 Meters Down: The Wreck is the perfect continuation of our shark-filled franchise,ā€ said Byron Allen, founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group. ā€œThis film will once again have moviegoers terrified and on the edge of their seats.ā€

Johannes Roberts adds, ā€œWe canā€™t wait for audiences to be trapped underwater with us again. 47 Meters Down: The Wreck is going to be the biggest, most-intense film of this franchise.ā€
