Suddenly, horror movies are good again, at least that’s what the recent box office tallies are telling us. Terrifier 2 became the latest in a recent onslaught of winning horror movies. Having only opened on Thursday in just over 3000 theaters, the extreme slasher, featuring the psychotic Art the Clown, has already become a qualified success.

The official Terrifier social media page reported this morning that it was among the top five most-watched films releasing this week thanks to its dedicated supporters and gore lovers:

Terrifier fans came out in full force last night! The bloody sequel carved out over $400,000 in Thursday night box office. At 886 sites, the film ranked #4 coming up just shy of films playing in over 3,000 theaters. We can’t thank you enough for coming out and supporting this film. It’s fans like you who made this possible.”

Producer Michael Leavy who helped develop the project also took to social media seemingly surprised and grateful for the box office receipts.

“HOLY ****!!!!!! We are #4 at the box office against films in 3000 theaters plus! And already made over $400,000 on just an opening Thursday night! WHAT. IS. HAPPENING!!!!

Humbled to say the least. Hard work really does pay off.

Everyone if you can, please go see #Terrifier2 this weekend in theaters.” — Michael Leavy, Facebook

Our own Trey Hilburn saw the film at Fantastic Fest last month and said in his review that it is destined to become a seasonal favorite: “Damien Leone has created a gory, gnarly experience that is an incredible spooky season event and a terrifyingly fun ride. This movie is what horror needed.” You can read his full review HERE.

Terrifier 2 had a rough start. It began filming in 2020 after a successful IndieGoGo campaign but had to cease production due to Covid. Then there was some trouble behind the scenes which set the release date back even more.

But all of that extra time seems to have paid off because it currently sits at a 94% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
