Wes Craven’s Deadly Friend is headed to Shout! Factory Blu-Ray this October. The Wes Craven love story was like Weird Science meets Chopping Mall mixed in with a odd love story. It also features one of the most insane head explosion kills that has ever been committed to cinema. It includes a basketball and Anne Ramsey and Kristy Swanson.

They synopsis for my Deadly Friend goes like this:

Lonely teenage genius Paul (Matthew Labyorteaux, Barbarians At The Gate), a specialist in brain research, has two best friends: his remarkable robot … and the beautiful girl next door (Kristy Swanson, Buffy The Vampire Slayer). When tragedy strikes both of his friends, he desperately tries to save them by pushing technology beyond its mortal limits into a terrifying new realm.

Production on Deadly Friend was a bit of a mess. Originally, there were plans to have the film focus more on the characters and a love story. However, right before the film was released, Warner Bros. got involved and  demanded more gore and violence. That is why the violence that is in the film, including Ramsey’s head explosion feels a little out of place. It was a bit of a doomed release, but it did manage to find its audience, although it isn’t a large audience that it found.
