1996’s Twister was event movie-going. The film preyed on the nation’s terror of weather that could potentially wipe out your entire home and livelihood. The film was a blast and starred Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt and a very young Phillip Seymor Hoffman. The film centered on chasing dangerous tornadoes down in order to study them. Well, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are bringing the film back for a second go-round with Twisters.
The new film is looking to bring Helen Hunt back to resurrect her character as well. According to Deadline, Steven Speilberg was very excited about the script for Twisters and was championed getting it streamlined.
Unfortunately, the film lost its first pick director. The director of Maverick was attached but departed for another film.
The sequel will center on the child that Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton’s characters had. I assume she/he will have followed in dad and mom’s footsteps of stormchasing.
Twister was an enormous hit in 1996. The film made tons of money. So, it isn’t a huge surprise to see the return of the film all these years later.
We will be sure to keep you updated on this as it develops.
