‘Poltergeist’ Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary With Special 4K UHD Release

Published

Poltergeist

They’re here! On 4K UHD! All those angry spirits that have been causing havoc waiting for a chance to get a 4K release are now at peace. Tobe Hooper’s spooky classic, Poltergeist is finally coming to 4K UHD and we couldn’t be happier about it.

The synopsis for Poltergeist goes like this:

“Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family, the Freelings — Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), teenaged Dana (Dominique Dunne), eight-year-old Robbie (Oliver Robins), and five-year-old Carol Ann (Heather O’Rourke) — when ghosts commune with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly menacing, and, when Carol Ann goes missing, Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help.

Poltergeist really manged to scare the whits out of audiences back when it was released in the 80s. There was a Baskin Robin’s of fears in this thing. A flavor for everyone. Deranged clown with abnormally long arms not your cup of tea? How about your braces come to life and tear your face off? The angry Poltergeist in the house surely knew how to scare the pants off folks and it used every trick in the bag. Lets not forget about the timeless, suck someone into a television in order to get them into the upside down? Luckily for a whole host of 80s kids we were dragged to go see this one entirely too young and lived most of our childhood afraid to death that a clown was living under our bed.

Poltergeist arrives on 4K UHD on September 20. Best Buy will have an exclusive steelbook release packaging while other stores will have the regular non-steelbook release of the 4K film.

‘Bambi: The Reckoning’ is Putting the Blood, Guts and Horror in the Classic

Published

Bambi

Director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield is on a warpath on childhood films. We have been seeing a trend of certain films like Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, and The Grinch get horror takes on them. Next up for the director, he has set Bambi in his sights. According to Dread Central Waterfield’s future project is Bambi: The Reckoning. He will act as a producer on this one with Scott Jeffrey directing.

Recently, Quentin Tarantino called Bambi one of the most terrifying movies made. He has a point. Disney’s original cartoon is seriously a traumatizing experience. It will be interesting to see what Waterfield does with his take. It would be great to see Bambi and her mom be able to get some revenge.

The synopsis for Disney’s original Bambi film went like this:

In this Disney classic a young deer named Bambi joins his new friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, in exploring his forest home. As a boy, he learns from his doting mother and his father, The Great Prince of the Forest, that there are dangers in the open meadows where hunters can spot the animals, and he meets a beautiful young doe named Faline. As Bambi grows up, he learns that there is tragedy as well as beauty and joy in his forest world and on the path to adulthood.

“The film will be an incredibly dark re-telling of the 1928 story we all know and love.” Jeffrey told Dread Central. “Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”

Are you ready for a horror take on Bambi? We will be sure to keep you updated.
