Days Gone was not only a major exclusive for Sony, but it was also a major hit for the game studio. The game which pretty much pulled a page right out of Daryl Dixon’s Walking Dead handbook, saw its hero riding around on a motorcycle during the zombie apocalypse, whilst looking cool and using various weapons to dispatch the undead. The major difference here is that Deacon St. John was up against zombies that move more like the rabid undead from World War Z. So, the motorcycle really came in handy in cases when you really needed to get away and fast. Actor Sam Heughan of Outlander fame is circling Days Gone with Sony Entertainment looking to assist.
Sheldon Turner is going in attached to write. Turner worked on both Up in the Air and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Two very eclectic touchstones there.
“I hear Turner’s script will be a love ballad to motorcycle movies; the bike being Deacon’s sole form of transportation, his horse in this would-be, modern-day western.” Deadline reports.
The synopsis for Days Gone goes like this:
The player controls Deacon St. John, an outlaw-turned-drifter-bounty-hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a pandemic killed almost all of humanity and transformed millions of others into “Freakers,” mindless, zombie-like creatures that evolve quickly.
Days Gone could make a really interesting take within the zombie genre. Plus, fans of the game are going to show up in order to see this particular world brought to life.
We will keep you updated as Days Gone develops.
Mia and David Allen Arrive Today in ‘Evil Dead: The Game’ Update
Evil Dead: The Game introduces fan-favorite characters Mia and David Allen from The Evil Dead remake. Both survivors come with their own perks to take advantage of as well as a new single-player level to play in.
Mia and David join the growing cast of characters that already has plenty of Ash as well as some great characters from Army of Darkness as well as the first Evil Dead. Just like in the film, Mia is temporarily able to ward off possession in the game. She is also able to turn the more fear she feels into more damage done to enemies. That is a nice combo for an Evil Dead character. David Allen is a beacon of hope who is able to turn fear into extra heath for himself and his team.
The new skins come as part of Season 1 or if you prefer you can purchase them as standalone content.
The synopsis for Evil Dead: The Game goes like this:
Inspired by the iconic horror, humor and action of the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead: The Game brings the series’ biggest names together in a pulse-pounding battle with the forces of darkness. Work as a team of four Survivors to kick Deadite butt and banish the vile Kandarian Demon – or become the Demon yourself, using its powers of possession to stop the good guys dead and swallow their souls! Choose your squad with fan-favorite characters from every era in the series, and battle with a wide variety of weapons to survive the night in multiplayer and bonus single-player missions.
Brutal Dino-Filled ‘Second Extinction’ is Leaving Early Access and Will Now Be a Full Game
Second Extinction went into early access two years ago. During that time, the game tested players and vice-versa. Finally, after all this time Second Extiction is set to leave early access and head into being a full-on, grown-up game with a 1.0 build.
The build of the game introduces missions and a much-needed narrative. Along with that, we get some cosmetics like new weapons and some new deadly dinos. So, once again you will be able to team up with some friends be shot down to the surface of the earth from orbit, and take on mutated dinosaurs that have managed to come back from Extinction and have managed to take over the world.
One of the game’s best features is it’s seamless multiplayer. It is really intuitive to jump in and out of games. Plus, voice comms and getting things in order with your team is also really easy to do. I like that Second Extinction had all of that on its mind very early on. I can’t speak for its new 1.0 build and its missions, cause they aren’t out yet… but I can say that while it was in early access it was fun just to mindlessly destroy hordes of dinos with your friends.
The synopsis for Second Extinction goes like this:
“Mutated Dinosaurs have destroyed humanity, and the few survivors left have fled to space. Through short but intense guerrilla missions, a specialized rag-tag fireteam of survivors is being sent back to Earth to pick the invasion force apart and reclaim the planet.“
So, the earth is theirs. Humanity lives in space and only comes to run tests and visit earth. That’s a pretty cool synopsis. I wouldn’t mind seeing a film like that. Like, if Jurassic World is going to keep being silly they may as well go full on and take it to an extreme like that. Dinos ruled the surface of the globe and we were forced out. Cool stuff!
One of the most welcome new features is the actual narrative with missions. Prior to that I was just flying in and killing a bunch of dinos and taking over different areas. The game looks really nice and the controls are smooth as hell. All it needed was some NPC’s and missions to give you something to do planetside.
Second Extinction arrives as a full 1.0 build beginning October 20.
