Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ Series Announces Full Cast

Published

Sandman

Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is an unparalleled work of art. There are comic books and then there are comic books. The Neil Gaiman books are fantastical and will make you believe in dreams again, they will make you listen to your old favorite Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode songs. The will make you light candles and dance. It’s magical and the one comic I can go back and read again and again. It’s a one of a kind experience. Netflix has been in early stages of development for a while now, and it seems that today they have announced their cast. And I can’t believe that as protective as I’m going to be of this property, the casting of the Lord of Dreaming couldn’t have been better.

The line up for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman goes like this:

  • Tom Sturridge is Dream, Lord of the Dreaming
  • Gwndoline Christie is Lucifer, Ruler of Hell
  • Vivienne Acheampong is Lucienne, chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm
  • Boyd Holbrook is The Corinthian, an escaped nightmare who wishes to taste all that the world has in store
  • Charles Dance is Rodrick Burgess, Charlatan, blackmailer and magician
  • Asim Chaudhry is Abeland Sanjeev Bhaskar is CAIN, the first victim and the first predator, residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.

There are still a lot of names not mentioned here. I’m still very curious who will play Constantine? I’m still praying for Matt Ryan. Who will play Death? So many casting questions still unanswered. When they are answered the best be carefully considered.

This is huge news. It’s a lot to take in. I’ve dreamt of a Sandman film and or series since I was a young goth. Netflix has a lot to live up to and I’m hoping that Gaiman is onboard as much as possible to steer this thing in the directions it needs to sweep.

Now, David S. Goyer on as showrunner could either be the best thing or worse thing that has ever happened. Dude has done amazing works. But, he has also done Blade III. Let’s hope that this project means as much to Goyer as it does to some of us life long Sandman fans.

‘Mortal Kombat 1’ DLC Teases Big Horror Name

Published

on

Mortal Kombat 1 may have just been released but already creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice, Ed Boon is making plans for exciting DLC. In one of Boon’s latest Tweets, he gave a huge tease that wasn’t very subtle in nature. But, it points to a big horror icon coming to to Mortal Kombat 1.

Boon’s Tweet was a black-and-white image of all the biggest horror icons. Each icon came with check marks over icons who have been previously added and question marks over the ones that hadn’t yet been added.

This leaves Pinhead, Chucky, Michael Myers, Billy, and Ghostface all with question marks. All of these characters would be cool editions to the latest title. Especially someone like Pinhead.

Earlier this year a data spill pointed to Ghostface appearing in an upcoming title. It looks like that upcoming title may have been Mortal Kombat 1. We will have to wait and see to find out for sure. But, including a Ghostface capable of performing all kills from the full franchise would be awesome. I can already picture a garage door kill.

Who would you like to see in the latest game? If you could only choose one, who would you think it was?

‘Living For The Dead’ Trailer Scares Up Queer Paranormal Pride

Published

on

With all the ghost-hunting reality content available from Discovery+, Hulu is stepping up the genre with their take called Living for the Dead in which a team of five queer paranormal investigators travel to different haunted locations to raise the spirits of both the living and the dead.

The show at first appears to be a run-of-the-mill ghost-hunting procedural, but the twist is that these researchers also help the living cope with their hauntings. That kind of tracks since this show is from the same producers as Netflix’s Queer Eye, another reality show where the hosts help people find peace and acceptance.

But what this show has that Queer Eye doesn’t is an “A” list celebrity producer. Kristen Stewart plays the showrunner here, and she says the concept originally was meant as a gag.

“It’s so cool and enlivening that me and my best friend CJ Romero had this funny idea and now it’s a show,” says Stewart in a press release. “It started as a bit of a hypothetical silly pipe dream and now I am so proud to have shepherded something that is as moving and meaningful as it is truly a gay old time. Our cast makes me laugh and cry and they had the courage and heart to take us places I wouldn’t go by myself. And it’s a super cool maiden voyage for the company I’ve started with my partners Dylan Meyer and Maggie McLean. This is just the beginning for us and for ‘Living for the Dead.’ We wanna one day have traipsed across the entire spooky ass country. Maybe the world!”

Living for the Dead,” a Huluween original docuseries, premieres all eight episodes on Hulu Wednesday, October 18.

‘Saw X’ Tops the Franchise with Highest Rotten Tomatoes Ratings

Published

Saw

These ratings change often, but as it stands now Saw X has secured the highest Rotten Tomatoes score in the franchise’s history. The 10th installment, now in theaters, has received an 84 percent “fresh” rating, garnering positive feedback from critics and audiences alike.

The Saw series, known for its intricate traps and psychological horror, has seen varied critical reception over the years. The inaugural 2004 film, which set the stage for the franchise, previously held the record with a 50 percent freshness rating. This original movie, often hailed as a pioneering thriller, was instrumental in catapulting the careers of notable figures like director James Wan and co-writer Leigh Whannell.

However, not all films in the series have been as fortunate. Saw: The Final Chapter, released in 2010, languished at the bottom with a mere 9 percent rating. Even the star-studded Spiral: From the Book of Saw, featuring Hollywood heavyweights Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, managed only 37 percent.

What sets Saw X apart? Many attribute its success to its return to the franchise’s roots while offering a fresh perspective. The film serves as a prequel, filling the narrative gap between the first two movies. Tobin Bell, reprising his role as the menacing Jigsaw (or John Kramer), has been lauded for his performance. Critics have noted that Bell’s portrayal in Saw X is particularly riveting, with The Hollywood Reporter praising his “raspy voice and menacing gravitas”.

Director Kevin Greutert, who previously worked on Saw VI and Saw 3D, seems to have struck the right chord with audiences this time around. The Independent highlighted Greutert’s understanding of the franchise’s fanbase, stating that he delivers “exactly what they want”.

Other reviews have been equally favorable:

  • Bloody Disgusting: “Saw X delivers a franchise high, and that’s no small feat ten installments deep. There’s a comfortable sense of awareness and humor found in a sequel that utilizes its pared-back simplicity to showcase the characters and gore.”
  • DigitalSpySaw X has delivered the most effective Saw sequel yet … Saw X might still deliver the gore you’d expect from a Saw outing, yet in attempting to do something new and not just the same-old, it’s potentially injected the series with fresh blood.”
  • IndieWire: “People have got to stop fucking with John Kramer. … After a decade as Halloween’s most hyped-up annual release in the aughts, Saw is finally back this October to tell Taylor Swift she’s not the only one doing vigilante shit. Congrats, Tobin. You deserve this one. … Most agonizing, suspenseful Saw sequel yet.”

Saw X has set a new benchmark for future installments. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the series, this film promises a thrilling ride.
