Everything having to do with cryptids is on the cusp of being mesmerizing and equally terrifying. The latest Netflix series, Encounters gives us a peek behind the curtain of secrecy concerning extraterrestrials.
The series explores people from across the globe who have had a run-in with either UFOs or even a run-in with little Grey Men with giant eyes. Each testimony takes us in different directions and ultimately poses the big question… “Are we alone?”
The synopsis for the series goes like this:
As told from the perspective of firsthand experiences – in the places where the sightings occurred – and guided by cutting-edge scientists and military personnel, the series goes beyond the science to highlight the profoundly human impact of these encounters on lives, families, and communities. A timely and timeless cosmic detective story, what will be revealed from this puzzle of seemingly unrelated encounters across different places, times, and cultures is a set of uncanny similarities, and one astonishing truth: extraterrestrial encounters are global, awe-inspiring, and unlike anything we’ve ever imagined.
The 4-episodes of Encounters arrives on Netflix beginning September 27.
Duran Duran’s Halloween-Inspired, ‘Danse Macabre’ is First From New LP
Whether you were around in the ’80s or ’90s or not, you must have heard about Duran Duran, the British pop band that, at one time, was just as popular as the Beatles.
The group just announced their 16th studio album, Danse Macabre, and have teased it with the title track which you can listen to below. What is interesting about this LP is that it was inspired by Halloween and all the weird things that happen during that holiday.
“The song ‘Danse Macabre’ celebrates the joy and madness of Halloween,” said Nick Rhodes, the band’s keyboardist and vocalist. “It is the title track of our forthcoming album, which gathers together an unusual mix of cover versions, reworked Duran Duran songs and several new compositions. The idea was born out of a show we played in Las Vegas on October 31st, 2022. We had decided to seize the moment to create a unique, special event…the temptation of using glorious gothic visuals set to a dark soundtrack of horror and humor was simply irresistible.”
He adds: “That evening inspired us to explore further and to make an album, using Halloween as the key theme. The record metamorphosed through a pure, organic process, and not only was it made faster than anything since our debut album, it has also resulted in something none of us could have ever predicted. Emotion, mood, style and attitude have always been at the heart of Duran Duran’s DNA, we search for light in the darkness and darkness in the light, and I feel we have somehow managed to capture the essence of all of that in this project.”
Danse Macabre doesn’t only have original material but contains some reworks and covers as well: Billie Eilish’s “Bury a Friend,” Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” (feat. Victoria De Angelis of Måneskin), The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Spellbound,” Cerrone’s “Supernature,” and The Specials’ “Ghost Town,” and a Rick James-inspired bop “Super Lonely Freak.”
The album is due out on October 27.
Drummer Roger Taylor hopes fans will listen and have a new appreciation of them, “I hope you take a journey with us through the darker side of our inspirations into where we’re at in 2023. Maybe, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how Duran Duran got to this moment in time.”
Watch ‘Conjuring’ Star Vera Farmiga Nail Slipknot’s Demon Voice in ‘Duality’ Cover
Vera Farmiga, who has starred in three Conjuring movies, has a good idea of how a demon should sound. Recently, she sang Slipknot’s Duality at a Rock Academy show in Kingston, New York. She impressively matched Corey Taylor growl for growl.
Prior to singing Duality, Farmiga told the audience, “I’ll tell you one thing: This music program is one thing we can’t get enough of. We really do have the time of our lives.”
Watch the cover below – she starts singing a little after the 1 minute mark.
During the performance of Duality, Renn Hawkey (her husband) played the keyboards. Later in the show, the couple switched roles, with Farmiga playing the keyboards as Hawkey sang The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen.
Farmiga posted videos of both the Slipknot and Echo & The Bunnymen covers on her Instagram page. She also praised the Rock Academy, saying, “Best. Music. School. On. The. Planet. Enroll your kids now. And why let them have all the fun?! Enroll yourselves! Come learn. Come grow. Come play. Come have so much fun.”
Ghostface Stars in Scream VI’s ‘Still Alive’ Music Video
Scream VI is right around the corner and in the latest music video Demi Lovato takes on Ghostface. It isn’t what we were expecting to see from the soundtrack but Still Alive is still a nice addition the Scream VI soundtrack.
It does make me miss the old Scream soundtracks. The soundtracks for Scream 2 and Scream 3 were really great and full of alternative rock picks. Nowadays, soundtracks are sadly devoid of those kinds of picks.
The film stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox, Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, and Henry Czerny.
The synopsis for Scream VI goes like this:
Four survivors of the original Ghostface killings attempt to leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start.
