Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin) is set to take on the iconic role of Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s new series for Netflix. Titled Wednesday, it is the first outing of the series that will focus primarily on the daughter of Gomez and Morticia.
The series, written by Miles Millar and Al Gough (Smallville) is being described as a coming-of-age comedy set in Nevermore Academy where Wednesday “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”
Ortega, who will also be seen in the forthcoming new chapter of the Scream franchise, announced her involvement in the series via her Instagram account.

The actress takes on the role that was, perhaps most famously, played by Christina Ricci in the The Addams Family and Addams Family Values back in the 1990s. Other actress who have played the role include Cindy Henderson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicole Fugere, and Lisa Loring who originated the role in the first Addams Family television series at the age of six-years-old.
There’s little doubt we’ll hear more about casting in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to iHorror for all the latest news about Netflix and Wednesday!
