A sequel to the sleeper horror hit of 2014 It Follows will reunite actor Maika Monroe and director David Robert Mitchell. Titled They Follow the film will be produced by Neon and get a domestic release according to Variety. Filming will start in 2024.
David Robert Mitchell will not only direct the sequel but write it. Monroe is set to return as her character Jay Height from the first film. There are no details as of yet on which direction the story will go about a demonic sexually transmitted disease, but it is probably safe to say it won’t stray far from the original concept wherein a supernatural force haunts teens after their use of carnal knowledge.
Mitchell hasn’t been behind the camera since 2018’s Under the Silver Lake, although IMDb lists him directing an untitled movie starring Anne Hathaway which is in pre-production.
Monroe has been keeping busy within the horror genre. Not only did she star in the highly underrated Significant Other on Paramount+, but also scored an indie cult favorite with Watcher last year.
They Follow will also be produced by David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith from the original.
