Deadline reports that Hellboy is making a return at Millennium. The new film is intended to start a new franchise that will bring a new actor into the role of Ole’ Red. Deadline reports that the first film is to be based on Hellboy: The Crooked Man by Mike Mignola. In fact, the Hellboy creator will also write the new film.

Director Brian Taylor is set to direct the new film. You will remember Taylor from Crank and Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance.

Deadline reports that Hellboy: The Crooked Man’s story is set to follow:

“Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. In the comic, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil.

Hellboy by Mike Mignola

We were still hoping that Guillermo Del Toro would be given a chance to come back for another Hellboy film or two, but it doesn’t look like that will ever be the case. The last film that placed David Harbour in the place of Ole Red, didn’t do very well at all. To be fair it was a mashup of too many of Mignola’s stories in order to make a good film.
