FX’s Upcoming ‘Alien’ Series is the First of the Franchise to Take Place on Earth

Published

Alien

FX’s upcoming Alien series begins filming next year. Noah Hawley is heading the extension up at FX. The new series is said to be the first Alien to be set on Earth. It will act as a prequel to the events of Ellen Ripley and her team discovering the creatures on LV-426. This means that Ripley will not be in the series in any capacity.

The new series is said to be an extension and reinvention of the franchise that came before. Ridley Scott is still believed to be onboard as executive producer.

The synopsis for Alien went like this:

“In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

Creator, Noah Hawley is a fascinating choice. Everything that Hawley has created on FX has been brilliant. Both Fargo’s expansion and reinvention as well as Legion’s entirely new take on the X-Men have managed to be brilliant on their own merits. It will be interesting to see what he does with Alien.

‘The Ring’ Comes to Blu-Ray Steelbook Complete With VHS Slipcase Design

Published

on

Ring

Japan’s entry into J-Horror with Ringu was one of the best that there has ever been. When America decided to do a remake, I can still recall a lot of people being upset that it wouldn’t measure up. However, Gore Verbenski’s dark portrait was nearly a better film than the original. From its ominous start to shocking finish The Ring was effective around every corner. 20 years later folks can still appreciate Verbenski’s film and in order to celebrate the film turning 20 we are getting a cool steelbook blu-ray for the film.

The steelbook comes with an awesome VHS design slipcase. Inside the steelbook is made of static and the iconic scene with Samara and the well.

The synopsis for The Ring goes like this:

It sounds like just another urban legend — a videotape filled with nightmarish images leads to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. Newspaper reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) is skeptical of the story until four teenagers all die mysteriously exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery.

Verbinki’s film is genuinely scary and it entirely deserves a 20th anniversary release. It is a film that has managed to stay in the conversation when horror films are being discussed. It still manages to get heavy play during the Halloween season on AMC. Rightfully so.

You can pick up your copy of The Ring’s special edition beginning October 18.
