Literature’s cutest characters are becoming horror icons as they slowly enter the public domain and producers snatch them up. The latest one is Bambi, a coming-of-age story about a deer growing up in the forest amid other cute woodland creatures.

But for this latest iteration, the little four-legged fawn is on a rampage. Titled Bambi: The Reckoning, the movie stars Roxanne McKee, Nicola Wright and Tom Mulheron. Bloody Disgusting dropped the news along with some plot details today. They say that McKee will play a mother named Xana who along with her son Benji (Mulheron), “find themselves in a car wreck and soon hunted down by the vicious killing machine, Bambi. Bambi will destroy anyone in its path.”

Director Dan Allen told the horror publication, “It’s gonna be terrifying. When people see a deer in the wild after this film they’re gonna run for the hills. This film is about the death of childhoods as much as it’s gonna ruin childhoods Expect bloodshed, tears and rabbits… and one mean killer deer. At last, the British countryside will finally get its Godzilla.”

This production is being made under ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions, the same companies that brought Pooh: Blood and Honey, and the upcoming Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare from dark ride to dark comedy.

Filming begins shooting in England for Bambi: The Reckoning on January 6, with a projected fall 2024 release.
