The Lee Cronin-directed Evil Dead sequel, Evil Dead Rise, has officially been seen at SXSW.

Over the last few years, we were informed that this entry in the Evil Dead franchise will take the Deadites into urban areas. That’s right, y’all. The deadites are taking over the cities. We are assuming that someone f***ed up the reading from the Necronomicon worse than Ash Williams did.

The fifth entry in the Evil Dead franchise is being brought to us by Lee Cronin director of Hole in the Ground.  According to Cronin’s Tweet from 2021, this entry went through a huge COVID lockdown and a whopping 6,500 litres (1,500 gallons) of fake blood. That’s a substantial amount of gore. We are looking forward to seeing how he uses all that blood.

The new film focuses on two sisters, Beth (Lily Sullivan) and Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland). It will take place in LA. The city in which the two sisters must try to fight off a deadite complete takeover. Of course, this is all due to the discovery of that ole’ pesky Necronomicon.

Evil Dead Rise comes at us from executive producers Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi via Ghost House Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, and New Line Cinema.

The movie is set to open in theaters on April 21. We got to see it at SXSW 2023. Read the review HERE.
