The horror publication Dread Central got exclusive news about a possible series being pitched to Sony which would be based on director Steve Beck’s 2001 Dark Castle horror movie Thir13en Ghosts.

They report Patrick Mediate of Primordial Pictures and SFX Supervisor Aaron McLane (Fear the Walking Dead) have joined Dark Castle Entertainment and together they are pitching the television series idea.

The idea behind the show is that it would contain 13 episodes which would focus on the origin stories of the ghosts in the movie.

The filmmakers summarize their idea in the pitch:

“Every culture in the world has its ghost stories, and this re-imagining of 13 Ghosts presents an international sampling of these supernatural tales. The ghost stories within each episode will have their own stylistic look and feel that will be explored and influenced by each individual director. This makes our ghost vignettes stand out stylistically as they set the theme for each episode.”

The show might also have a gimmick element according to Dread Central. In a modernized William Castle promotional twist, they propose to have viewers watch the show using a VR headset so that the ghost can appear on TV and in the virtual environment surrounding your viewing space.

Of course this is all in the beginning stages of development, the project has not been approved by Sony, and the writer’s and actor’s strike are also hurdles. Since it doesn’t appear we will ever get that proposed Dark Universe from Universal, this seems like a worthy alternative once the strike is over.

Refresher of the 12 Ghosts From the Movie (to give away the thirteenth would be a major spoiler):

  • The First Born Son
  • The Torso
  • The Bound Woman
  • The Withered Lover
  • The Torn Prince
  • The Angry Princess
  • The Pilgrimess
  • The Great Child
  • The Dire Mother
  • The Hammer
  • The Jackal
  • The Juggernaut
