Variety just confirmed that a new season of Black Mirror is in the works over at Netflix.
It’s been a long 3-year pause since the last season of Black Mirror aired in June of 2019. However, with reports that casting is currently underway for the new season fans shouldn’t have too much longer to wait. Of course, details of storylines that may appear in the new anthology are being kept under wraps, for now. We do know that season 6 of Black Mirror will have more episodes than season 5. More Black Mirror is always a good thing, in our opinion.
Variety did receive a few details about the new season:
“A source close to the production tells Variety that the latest season is even more cinematic in scope, with each installment being treated as an individual film. This is, of course, in line with recent seasons of “Black Mirror,” for which episodes usually exceeded 60 minutes and had incredibly high production values.”

It was in question if Black Mirror was even going to continue. About 2 years ago show creator Charlie Brooker created some doubt with fans. “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
Another stumbling block was a legal matter going on behind the scenes about the Black Mirror rights. Brooker and creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow which retained the rights to the project. Thankfully, Netflix was able to work out a licensing deal so the Black Mirror universe could continue.
